Miss March’s MAJOR List of Holiday Gifts for Men!

Okay, so with the holidays coming up (and my horoscope says due to the full moon in December I should be shopping for the holidays NOW) I’d thought I’d totally jack Julia Allison‘s idea (thanks for the idea, Julia! I can’t wait to see what you list!) to post about great presents for guys. Though, I’m sure JA and I are looking in totally different places, so check her site too, because her presents are probably a little more…mature. I got a huge stack of catalogs in the mail today, so I’ve compiled a pretty goofy list of great things to get for the men in your life this holiday season.

This adorable amp is a perfect guy gift for any office boy!

For the music man in your life, check out this adorable mini-amp which plugs into your iPod, so you can blast music anywhere! And check it, “This miniature amp-style speaker has volume, bass and treble controls; power it up with the included USB cable for desktop use or 3 AA batteries.”

Okay, when I saw these pajamas I nearly passed out. Can I get a pair for every man in my life? How cute are they!

Star Trek nutcrackers...oh, the irony.

Then we have the whole slew of gifts for the Star Trek lover in your life. Gomez, the Admiral and BB are all fans of the show, so when I came across these gifts, I honestly couldn’t decide which one I loved more; was it the Star Trek nutcrackers? Perhaps it was the Star Trek phaser…can’t you just picture your man running around the house in his XBox pajamas, shooting his Star Trek phaser? Yeah, it’s quite the sexy image, isn’t it?

For the techno-savvy man in your life, check out this awesomely adorable Electroman Surge Protector; “Electroman turns one socket into four, extending a helping hand (and another hand and two feet to boot). Each grounded socket is controlled by an on/off switch, with an indicator light placed right where Electroman’s heart is. Aww.”

Bacon wallet...yum.

Most men love bacon. Fact. Unless they are a vegan/vegetarian, most men would have bacon for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and desert (my Uncle once ate chocolate with bacon in it). Therefore, what’s a better gift for your bacon-loving man than this Bacon Wallet?! He can now carry his lettuce in his bacon. Pretty sweet (err, salty).

These construction utensils would never leave CB's hand. Such a boy at heart!

Then there’s the whole list of gifts which remind me of ColoradoBoy: totally silly, immature, yet practical and useful. That’s pretty much the description of him. Ha. We have the Flying Alarm Clock; can’t you just see your man flying this around while you’re trying to sleep? “I just wanted to know the time, I have to get to yoga, stop flying the clock!!” I would never hear the end of it if I bought the The Nose Shower Gel Dispenser for CB; I doubt he would ever come out of the shower. And then, last, but not least, is the ultimate ColoradoBoy gift: Atomic Food Containers. He would flip out over these. Again, useful, but totally silly. I love them. Oh, and PS. These come in at a close second for the perfect gift for ColoradoBoy. And, while we’re at it, these utensils would also be very much loved by a certain boy from Colorado–useful, and fun.

If you’re looking to really wow a guy, you really can’t go wrong with referring to the fact that most men are obsessed with Monty Python and woo him with the Python-opoly set; “Pythonites will howl as they pay tax to the Knights Who Say “Ni!” and chant appropriate lines for every space they land on; fabulously sculpted playing pieces include a coconut, de-limbed Black Knight and of course, the Grail.” Sounds really…fun.

What about for the super cheesy man in your life, like your dad, uncle, or step-dad? How about these Sarcasm Society sweatshirts?  Or this Careful, You’ll End Up In My Novel sweatshirt? How about the When I Was Your Age, Pluto Was A Planet sweatshirt? Your dad would get a real kick out of that one! Or, my personal fav, the Egrets? I’ve Had a Few sweatshirt. I can’t help but laugh every time I see these in a catalog.

Make your own kinda music!

I’m not easily impressed with presents, but when I saw this, I actually gasped; you know the little handcranked music boxes that you sometimes got at street fairs growing up? Now you can make your own! I know about a hundred guys who would sit for hours (good boy) and play with this. It appeals to their technical and musical sides. Great gift for brothers!

These gifts were found in What on Earth, Wireless, and Signals catalogs. Come December I’ll do another post like this using my favorite websites.

What’s the goofiest gift you’ve ever given to a guy? Let me know if you get anything from this list or if it helps at all!

Miss March Gets Laughed at by The Universe

Last night was one for the books. It’s what we, here at Miss March land, call a “movie-night”–this would only have happened to either Miss March, or a fictional character in a movie. What happened, might you ask?

Irony: Full steam ahead!

Yesterday CB and I went into the city to meet up with J, A, and a bunch of my college friends for one of my best girl’s birthday. It was great seeing everyone, and I had a fantastic time, but, because I had taught all day, by the time 10:00 came around I was beat. We bid adieu to the crowd and CB and I headed to the train station.

By this time it was almost 11:00. The next train was at 11:09. Something in the back of my head clicked and I remembered a text message from The Prep from earlier that night, “heading back to my parents house at around midnight.” That’s funny, I thought to myself, I wonder what time train HE’S taking; but I figured he was probably still out with his friends and would take the train after us. We go down to the train platform and my phone buzzes.

Text message. From The Prep: “on the 11:09 home!”

My face must have gone white because CB looked at me funny. I look up and right there, standing, waiting for the next train car (with his back, THANK GOD, turned to me) was The Prep. I grabbed CB’s hand and said, “just follow me.” We walked down about 6 train cars and he looked at me and said, “Uh, what’s going on?” I sort of did my oh-shit-I-have-to-tell-the-truth grimace and said, “Well, there’s this guy and he likes me and he’s been begging me to come see him in The City and he’s, um, on this train. Ha?” CB looked at me and started to hysterically laugh, “Why do we always see boys you date on our dates?!” He thought it was all too funny.

I, however, didn’t think it was so funny. I prayed that I didn’t run into The Prep on that train ride. Not that I’m over the moon about him, but I knew running into him, while I was with another man, would ruin all chances with him. I felt bad, for some reason. I shouldn’t have. I was really happy to be with CB, and I had made no plans to see The Prep, but I felt like he’s been begging me to see him, and here I was with someone else. “I’m too nice,” I said to CB, “I think it has something to do with watching my little brother grow up and feeling too much for men.” I explained. It’s true. I am too nice, most times, when it comes to men. I worry too much about their feelings. Ha.

Anyway, like the other CB (Carrie Bradshaw) says, “The universe may not always play fair, but at least it’s got a hell of a sense of humor.”

Any ironic stories from your Friday night?

Miss March Challenges You!

Miss March has a challenge for you!

While talking to A tonight, she said very sternly to me, “I really don’t think there are any nice guys out there; I don’t believe it.”

I chose to disagree with her.

Is finding a "nice guy" like solving a rubik's cube? Just when you think you got it, another little color block pops up and you start back at square one.

Of course there are nice, good, sweet men out there; I mean, there has to be, right? Admiral Adama was the best boyfriend and friend he could be for the 3.5 years we were dating. Yes, I had my issues with him. Yes, they were major issues, but he was a sweetheart, most of the time.

Am I just proving myself wrong here?

What exactly constitutes a “good man”? My grandma would probably say, that a good man takes care of you, puts your first, never yells or snaps, lets you live your life (did I just describe a man or a dog?). Are we asking too little of men (just the other day I said to CB, “All I want is for someone to be nice to me and call me back!”) or perhaps we’re asking too much of men (be my best friend/partner/always be on/always be nice/do the dishes)?

I have a feeling that BB is going to be a “good” and “nice man.” He was raised with two sisters and watched men break our hearts and make us cry; he must have learned something from that. He’s in-tune, I think, more than most other men are, with a woman’s manners, methods, and reasoning. He’s watched his sisters chose or not chose to continue seeing men in their lives and our reasons for that.

Okay, after reading over this post I realized I quickly changed the question from finding a “nice guy” to a “good man”…I wonder why I did that?

I guess I see them as one and the same; someone who is a “good man” is also going to be “nice.” Don’t get me wrong here either, I’m not saying I’ve never met a nice guy, but they are very, very few and far between.

And yes, it’s certainly hard to find a nice guy out there; I’ve found, in my dating travels, that many men aren’t sure of themselves yet, so they take their insecurities out on you. But, there has to be a plethora of hidden nice guys out there, right? Maybe they’re all on some island, preparing me Apple Juice and vodkas with Tasti D Lite for dinner…

…or you could just start humming the tune to Matchmaker, “But, he’s a nice man, a good catch, true?”

Here’s your challenge: TELL US about any NICE GUYS you know! (and are they single and in the NY area? I kid, I kid. Sort of…) Prove Miss March and A wrong!

Are there any truly Nice Guys out there?

Miss March on Her Fav Boy

Baby Brother is Home!

Baby Brother is Home!

Well, it’s August 5th today which means the number one man in my life is finally home: Baby Brother. He’s been in France for the summer and he just arrived back, voice deeper, skin smooth, and a very French gait about him. There’s nothing like being an older sister and having this Baby Brother who is taller than you; he’s a one-of-a-kind human being. Over the years he’s been introduced to many of my and J’s exes, friends, dates, etc. and with each one I know he’s been watching, keeping his eye on his big sisters, and keeping close watch over the relationships. He’s seen what’s made us smile, which boys made us cry, and who we ended up letting stick around. I hope, I think, he’s learned a lot from watching me make mistakes; I have a feeling he’s going to be a great boyfriend to some lucky lady someday. And I can’t wait to watch him build relationships and see who he’s going to let into his life. For now, I’m content to hear all about his French travels!

By the by, to clear things up: I’m not actually going to publicly slander MusicTeach’s name, but the animal-instinct in me really desires to.

In other news, I’ve decided to go to a concert this weekend and I’m sort of intent on making sure I meet the singer; it’s a small venue, with a semi-famous celebrity singer, and he’s wildly cute in that sort of dorky way. He’s 30, Jewish, and been in some things here and there. I’m going to go early, hang out at the bar, see if he’s around, and introduce myself. Have any of you ever “been” with a celebrity?

Also, I need a semi-adult, but sexy look for a date this week…any suggestions?
